Product News: New Sharing Updates

Thank you all for your feedback and ideas about the recent changes to sharing. We apologize if this has caused any confusion.

Our goal is to make sharing easier and give you more options than before.
There are now two ways to share:

1) As before, you can manually post to your Facebook wall or Twitter, with an optional comment, by tapping “Add comment”

2) We have also given you the option to share automatically to Facebook Timeline and Twitter every time you tag a show.
To turn automatic sharing on or off, tap the sharing icon and make your selections.

When you tag a show with “Add to Facebook Timeline” enabled, it will appear in your Facebook ticker. Once Facebook Timeline is rolled out to you, your tags will create new aggregations. Adding to your Facebook Timeline a great way for your friends to see what shows you’re into.
If you don’t have Facebook Timeline yet, you will soon. In the meantime you can see your IntoNow tags on your Facebook profile “recent
activity”.

Hopefully, that helps clarify the update. Please, keep the feedback coming.

At long last: Android!

So Much Great TV – So Little Time – Update IntoNow with Discover

We’ve been noticing that there is more great TV.  For the team we’ve been Into (well kinda obsessed with) Breaking Bad, The Wire, Dexter and Game of Thrones to name a few.

We asked ourselves why we are all Into so many new shows and the simple answer was because we had been discovering new content through the lens of what our friends are Into.

So we’ve made a core part of our product. Starting on Thursday we released an update to our iPhone app that focuses on discovery  – with a unique twist. We looked at the your tags, your friends tags, and what other people who watch similar content tag but you have not to come up with recommendations for what you could be watching. These created clusters and nodes for us to start surfacing shows we think you might like.

We took it once step further to give you a personal calendar. So now you can simply see based on time of day, what we think you should be Into… Now. The idea is to reward you with recommendations based on every tag you make (well actually takes a minimum of 3 for the algorithms to start working if you want to get technical about it).

As always, give us feedback. Did we recommend something great? Something you can’t stand? Every action you take to add or remove helps us understand more about what you might like.

12 weeks and… Yahoo!

When we launched on January 31, 2011 our idea was to change the way people interact with TV. What we believe is that the devices we have in our lives are going to fundamentally change the way we consume, share and engage with content, and advertisers.

Over the course of the last 12 weeks, we’ve focused on how to iterate (with our team of 7) to bring more engaging experiences to our audience. We have a lot more to come and with that in mind we’re excited to announced that we’ve been acquired by Yahoo!

Yes that’s 12 weeks later… we were all surprised to say the least but it makes a ton of sense:

We want to grow the experiences, platforms (yes we’ve heard you loud and clear: Android, iPad, web-based, etc.) and countries to engage with you, our community… That takes resources and a global scale. 

Yahoo! has shown us that they are excited about what we’re doing and committed to continue innovating for our community. Most importantly we want to thank you for helping us continue to create something innovative, fun and engaging.

You may have noticed since last Friday that your tags (identifications) are going, well, faster. That’s because we’ve been working behind the scenes to improve our algorithms…

Since last Friday 10.8003% faster to be specific. Try it out… you may just get a little more magic from less is more.

First major update for IntoNow!

We’ve heard great things from all of you during the last 2 months and the top feature request has been the ability to start discussions while watching TV. In our first big release since we’ve launched we are focused on creating experiences that go beyond tagging:

  • Discuss any episode, show or movie, with everyone or just friends! Tag what you’re watching and dive in to talk to your friends during the show.
  • Discovered a great new show? Or old classic? Now you can recommend shows to friends right inside IntoNow.
  • While not explicitly visible at this time we’ve made some changes under the hood to start enabling commercials. We have some exciting things lined up. Stay tuned

In addition to these major new additions we’ve added many things: new options in the Popular tab (especially the “now” filter for real-time insights into what people are watching right now), single step sharing to Facebook and Twitter and browsing episodes on show pages, as well as bug fixes and performance improvements!

Taking companion to the next iteration

At IntoNow, we’re obsessed with the idea that you should be able to tag anything that you are Into…Now.  Mobile, tablets and connected devices are changing the way we interact with the world around us, consume content and also make purchases.

By taking advantage of the devices in our lives, in particular using new forms of inputs like audio to understand what you are watching and engaging with, we hope to deepen the connection between the tv, you and your friends.

This next release is a step in that direction. In the coming weeks and months ahead we’re experimenting with how to close the loop from a brand experience (ie. commercial) you see on TV to the real world of physical goods and services. We’re also working on incorporating more ways to reward your content experiences – whether it’s simply understanding what’s on your tv that your friends have watched/are watching, sharing recommendations, knowing what shows you have in common, or even giving you more content – we believe together we will see the biggest changes in entertainment as our consumption changes.

As our community, you’re helping us pave the way. This next month, watch this space.

We’re very excited to share 1 million tags in just 4 weeks. We’re definitely into that to say the least! You’ve helped us get there and we appreciate it.

What’s getting more from TV really about.

It means being able to tag anything on TV you’re Into whether that’s a great show, an amazing episode, a live event or a commercial. Yup commercial…

We want you to connect with your friends to make television more social, engaging and personalized. It’s what you’re into, what you’re doing right now, and there should be an easy way to share that with your friends. Along the way we hope you discover more shows you should be into… we certainly have.

We’ve got more that we want to bring to you… keep the thoughts, recommendations, feedback, ideas, rants, bugs, wow’s, mistakes, features coming.
